Los Angeles World Airports is a proprietary department of the City of Los Angeles which operates three Southern California Airports. Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Ontario International, and Van Nuys General Aviation Airport.

LAX is currently undergoing a 4.11 billion dollar capital improvement program. The new Tom Bradley International Terminal is the centerpiece of the program. Other major components of the program include a replacement Central Utility Plant, taxiways, food concessions, and major electrical upgrades.

The construction under this program is being inspected by Municipal Construction Inspectors Association represented civil servants. LAWA employs the civil service classifications of Construction Inspector and Senior Construction Inspector. Their primary responsibility is to verify that the construction meets all contract specifications .Other MCIA represented members performing inspection duties at LAX include inspectors from the Bureau of Contract Administration and the Department of Building and Safety.
